Yes, long before we started working on hematopoietic stem cells and niche, when we used to have "Heme oxygenase-1 Fan Club" we worked on melanoma and heme oxygenase-1 enzyme. This work was continued by dr Anna Kusienicka. In our recent paper we show that heme oxygenase-1 reduces the risk of melanoma initiation but improves the progression of growing tumors. Yet again we show another example of dual role of our favourite heme-degrading enzyme.
